Darren Clarke Awarded OBE and gets runner-up in BBC Sports Personality Awards 2011

2011 was a fantastic year for our favourite golfing hero Darren Clarke, and not content with ‘only’ winning the 2011 British Open, he has just received an OBE for his achievements, oh and he came runner-up in the BBC Sports Personality Awards too.

Darren has enjoyed success through the years with wins at the Ryder Cup and K Club but he never quite made it to the upper echelons of the game. That was until 2011 when he triumphantly won the British Open, a feat even more impressive given he’s not the youngster man in game, proof then that talent is indeed timeless.

From the Open win in 2011 it seems Darren’s luck has changed for good with his recent 2011 OBE being the icing on the cake for 2011, Darren was thrilled with the award saying “I have had a fantastic year and this just caps it off”. He was joined by his former stable mate Rory McIlroy who received an MBE for his achievements.

If winning the Open and receiving an OBE Award wasn’t enough for the Irishman, he has also just narrowly missed out on the BBC Sports Personality Awards, coming second only to Mark Cavendish.

We hope Darren’s success continues through 2012!
